The beginning of every year is so fun for makeup enthusiasts like myself because brands are launching so many new products! The holidays are over, everyone is ready for a fresh start and new makeup is here to get excited about. Honestly, I was feeling overwhelmed with all the new launches and I was just looking at the affordable end of the spectrum. How do you sift through it all if you also use high-end makeup too? Well, I’m a drugstore gal through and through so I’ll be talking about new drugstore foundations and concealers!
At first, I was going to try and include all product categories but it just got to be too much. That’s when I started to get overwhelmed with what to choose. What products look interesting and spark my curiosity? Then I realized that foundations and concealers always catch my interest because I feel like I’m always in the market for something that will WOW me.
I have plenty of eyeshadow palettes and lip products and am pretty set in my ways with my brow routine, mascara, etc. But I’m definitely in a foundation and concealer rut right now. The products I used to love aren’t my favorites anymore. I’ve tried some new things but the shades have been off which has made them a little whomp-whomp. Nobodies fault but my own for not getting the right shade or being lazy and not exchanging.
My skin has changed so much in the last few years. I’ve basically had to re-learn a whole new routine and find new products that will work for my skin now. I went from having oily skin to normal/dry (I blame aging and pregnancy!)
So I filtered through all the new things and just choose the new drugstore foundations and concealers released in the last few weeks. I’m excited to test out several of them. If you want me to do a dedicated review of any of these or a few at once, leave me a comment and I would love to!
Let’s jump into these and I will add a few comments to each with product details I think are most important when deciding to try them or not.
FOUNDATIONS
// Wet n Wild Photo Focus Dewy Foundation
If you haven’t tried the original Photo Focus foundation, it’s amazing and beautiful! I have it, love it and would continue to repurchase especially at the incredible price tag. Now introducing the little sister, for my dry skin friends! Would totally be down to test this out and see how it compares to the original.
// Physicians Formula Sheer Line Of Defense Foundation SPF 30
Interesting formula concept claiming to defend against aging and protect against sunlight, blue light and pollution. Formula is also supposedly sheer to light. I know some brands say a sheerer formula makes shades span across more skin tones therefore needing a smaller shade range overall but still…5 shades?! Now you can’t tell me that medium shade will work for all dark/deep skin tones…

// Ulta Effortless Effect Foundation
Could be a great everday foundation for day-to-day makeup application if you don’t need full coverage but still want some coverage with your base. The formula includes hyaluronic acid which is a big win for any skin type because of the hydration benefits it promotes. Sounds right up my alley!
Milani Screen Queen Foundation
The second foundation for Milani to release – specifically designed to combat blue light from screens that your skin is exposed to every day. Claims to be light/medium coverage whereas their Conceal + Perfect foundation is more medium to full IMO. The formula claims to help fight the signs of digital damage – dullness, discoloration and hyper-pigmentation. Not sure what blue light is doing to our skin, if anything, but I’m still intrigued to try any foundation from Milani! And the shade range is impressive!
Covergirl Clean Fresh Skin Milk Foundation
Claims to have light coverage for all skin types and is infused with coconut milk along with other ingredients for hydration and glow. Kind of sounds like a tinted moisturizer or bb cream to me. I’m in the market for one that I can use on the daily and this one already has 4.5 stars!
// Maybelline Dream Radiant Liquid Foundation
Maybelline’s Dream line continues to grow with this new hydrating foundation. Earlier this year they released their Dream Urban Cover foundation and now here’s her sister in a hydrating and radiant formula! The formula is medium coverage (vs the urban cover being full coverage) and includes hyaluronic acid and collagen which are great skin-boosting ingredients.
CONCEALERS
NYX Born To Glow Radiant Concealer
Extending their Born To Glow line with a concealer to pair with their foundation – the formula is illuminating and will add brightness and radiance. I haven’t tried the BTG foundation but seems to be successful enough to warrant a concealer pairing.
e.l.f Hydrating Camo Concealer
Another extension to an already popular product – the cult favorite original camo concealer! I’m SO excited for the hydrating version. I did like the original but felt like it was somewhat drying for my under eyes so stopped using it. This could be great for all skin types, not just drier skin and could especially be good for under the eyes where the skin tends to be a little drier and needs more hydration.
Catrice Slim’matic Camouflage Concealer
This is the second concealer for Catrice to release. Their original camo concealer is best seller for the brand. The slim’matic version is supposed to be full coverage and more precise. This might be great for contouring and highlighting if the formula is good! Would love to see how this compares to the original camo formula.

Colourpop Pretty Fresh Hyaluronic Creamy Concealer
Claims to be full coverage with hyaluronic acid which seems to be a common ingredient in this roundup. I would be interested to try this formula and compare to their no filter concealer. I’ve tried the no filter but it could be a little too dry for me. Only bummer is this one isn’t the same price as the no filter…guessing you are paying more for hydration?
Physicians Formula Natural Defense Total Coverage Concealer SPF 30
Same formula concept as their new foundation mentioned above. Also, don’t know if I’ve seen a concealer promoting an SPF before so that feature might be nice. Would be interesting to see if you get flashback and the shade range is again atrocious.
I’m sensing a theme with all these new drugstore foundations and concealers which is hydrating formulas….and I’m not mad at all! Hydrating formulas are exactly what I’m in the market for. I’m trying to find those favorites and holy grails again that are my go-tos no matter what season it is or shade I am.
