Over the last couple years, I’ve ventured into a whole new world of at-home spa nights! Adulting is no joke. I work a full-time job 5 days a week and most days come home feeling exhausted and drained. Gone are the college days of one or two afternoon classes a day, only going to class if you feel like it and sleeping in until noon. Working full-time forced me to carve out some “me time” during the week or on the weekends. There’s nothing better than looking forward to a little pampering right in your own home! So I want to share my favorite products for creating an affordable spa day at home!
There are too many days where I’ve daydreamed about taking a vacation at a spa and just hiding away for a few days getting pampered head to toe. That is my idea of a dream vacation right about now. But spas can be SO expensive – even just one day or half a day can be hundreds of dollars. So I’m all about DIY and creating a relaxing and rejuvenating environment right at home! Sometimes it’s just good to be in your own home and atmosphere to really create a space where you can unwind.
I’m a huge advocate of taking baths! But my baths are leisurely and relaxing – not for the purposes of getting clean. I usually take a quick shower in the morning or at night for that! For me, bath time is all about unwinding and soaking in the tub. So filling up my bathtub is my first order of business and while it’s filling, I get the bathroom prepped and ready with my spa day essentials. Here are some of my absolute must-have products for creating a tranquil room and pampering myself 🙂
Majestic Pure Himalayan Salt Body Scrub & Majestic Pure Brown Sugar Body & Facial Scrub
Part of my pampering routine is really exfoliating my skin and washing away the dead and dry skin. These scrubs are so nice and leave my skin feeling silky smooth when I get out! I will use the sugar scrub on my face and all over my body for a head-to-toe exfoliation. I use the salt scrub where I have really dry skin like my elbows and knees. This is great to use in the winter when your skin is a little extra dry in certain spots.
Non-Slip Suction Spa Bath Pillow
A neck pillow is a must when I’m taking a bath! I just have a basic sized tub so in order for me to really relax and get comfortable, I prefer a neck pillow to rest on. I experience quite a bit of neck pain on a regular basis due to looking at a computer or looking down. So, at the end of the day, my neck muscles are really sore and painful. Having this neck pillow really helps take the strain off of it while I lay back. Plus it suctions to the tub to stay put!
All that exfoliating will require a really good moisturizer once I dry off. I love using something a little more thick that will soak into my skin so I highly recommend a body butter! These body butters by The Body Shop are heavenly! My favorite scent is the peach one but they have tons of scents to choose from. A little goes a long way so one tub lasted me quite a while. I didn’t use it as a daily body moisturizer but you totally can if you want!
Dr. Teal’s Soothe & Sleep W/Lavender Bath Salts & Dr. Teal’s Relax & Relief W/Eucalyptus & Spearmint Bath Salts
Bath salts take the whole experience up a notch! I absolutely love the Dr. Teal’s salts and recommend both of these options. Lavender is one of my favorite smells and really helps me relax so I usually go for the soothe & sleep lavender one. However, with my neck pain, sometimes I like to mix it up and use the eucalyptus and spearmint one and I can really feel a difference in the tension and soreness in my neck and body.
Who doesn’t love a good manicure during a spa day? Sally Hansen nail polishes are probably one of my favorite brands! Once I get out of the bath and dry off, I will sometimes paint my nails. A good nail color just makes you feel better and prettier!
L’Oreal Paris Detox & Brighten Clay Mask (grey) & L’Oreal Paris Exfoliate & Refine Clay Mask (peach)
Another essential in my pampering routine is a face mask. If I’m taking a bath, I will usually use a mud mask that way I can really wait and relax as it dries and I don’t feel it slipping off like a sheet mask. Plus it’s super easy to wash off in the bath when I’m done. These L’Oreal clay masks are fantastic and rival any high-end mud mask! They leave my skin feeling soft and rejuvenated. I will switch up which kind I use depending on how my skin is that day.
Rose Gold Wireless Bluetooth Speaker
I love to listen to music to help me relax and this little bluetooth speaker is the perfect thing! I don’t need anything fancy – just something that can hook up to my phone wirelessly so I can stash my phone in another room. This speaker has great range and sound and we actually use it all the time in our house! The rose gold color is right up my alley. Make a playlist and just let it play 🙂
Essential Oil Diffuser and Humidifier
The last thing I need is aromatherapy! I will usually light a candle or turn on my diffuser. Essential oil diffusers are great to have in your house because you can use them in any room and diffuse any oil that you want! I will bring mine into the bathroom and drop some oils in to diffuse while I bathe. You can diffuse whatever scent you prefer and fill the room with it 🙂
This is a great little starter kit of essential oils if you don’t have any but are interested in trying some out. This kit includes some of my all time favorites: lavender, sweet orange, peppermint, eucalyptus, lemongrass and tea tree. There are so many uses for essential oils so these can be more than just spa day essentials. For example, peppermint oil is a life-saver for me because I get extremely car sick. I carry my peppermint oil in my purse so I have it when I travel at all times. I also like to drop a few drops of essential oil in my bath water!
Now the only thing that would be left for me is a glass of wine! I love drinking wine in the bath but I’ve also been known to catch up on some Netflix or bring a book and read (look for an affordable book stand for the tub to save your arm the trouble). Treat yo-self to an affordable spa day at home soon because you deserve it! It’s amazing what a little R&R can do for your body, mind and spirit!
