Eye toppers first made a big splash in the beauty community when Stila dropped their best selling glitter and glow liquid eyeshadows last year. These eye toppers are absolutely stunning and shifted the way brands are now coming out with liquid eyeshadows. A new phrase called “eye toppers” has emerged. Basically these are liquid eyeshadows that you can wear alone or top on existing eyeshadow to give your eye makeup an extra pop, sparkle or shine. Of course, after Stila came out with their liquid shadows, other high end brands followed suit and it wasn’t long before drugstore brands jumped on the bandwagon.
I have never been a fan of liquid eyeshadows because honestly I really didn’t know how to use them. During my regular and addictive Youtube makeup video binges, I have seen people use liquid eyeshadows as a base, on top of other shadows or all by themselves. So now I’ve come to the conclusion that they are really multi-functional. However, I think my favorite way to use them is on top of existing eyeshadows as an eye topper.
Some brands like Maybelline have had their eye chromes on the market for years now and they are fantastic. But other brands have now come out with their own versions in a variety of colors, formulas, textures, etc. Milani is actually one of the most recent brands to launch their version which inspired this post. Their hypnotic lights eye toppers looked so fun and beautiful that I thought I would write a dedicated post about affordable eye toppers under $15. The Stila ones are $24 each but, as always, I think you can achieve a similar look with products at a fraction of the cost.
Let me know in the comments below – are you into the eye topper trend or is it too much work? Below I have linked all the products in my graphic.
