Makeup tools are sooo important for your makeup application. I feel like my makeup looks night and day different with these tools compared to without. And most of that can be contributed to a makeup sponge and good set of brushes! Those two things alone upped my makeup game big time! Specifically for my lashes, a good lash curler and a METAL lash comb / separator helps to keep my lashes curled all day and looking nice and fluffy versus spidery and clumpy. Those plastic lash combs just aren’t. going. to. cut. it.
Some of these tools I use every day and some I use every week or few weeks. But each one makes such a difference. I’ve linked my favorites below and I’ll go into each one specifically and tell you how I use it.
APPLICATION TOOLS
// Makeup Sponge
If I had to pick just one tool to start using, just one…..it would be a makeup sponge hands down. It has changed my makeup application for the better and I will never not use one. This L’Oreal one is my absolute favorite. You can use it for both liquid and powder face products.
// Makeup Brush Set
You have to have a good makeup brush set. It’s a non-negotiable. I went years and years with random crappy brushes and I wish I would have purchased nicer ones sooner. This set from Amazon has every brush you will need to get started. There is a great mix of face and eye brushes and you can’t beat the price.
// Eyelash Curler
Some people are blessed with naturally curly lashes and I sadly am not one of those people. To create curled lashes and keep them curled all day long, I HAVE to have an eyelash curler along with a good waterproof mascara and lash separator.
// Eyelash Comb
This is something I use pretty much every day. I will curl my lashes and apply one coat of mascara. I let that dry and then comb through my lashes with this before applying a second coat. This ensures my lashes aren’t sticking together or looking clumpy before I apply additional coats.
// Eyeshadow Switching Pan
This is a great tool to have if you like to do eyeshadow and don’t have multiples of the same type of eyeshadow brush. Sometimes I use the same brush to apply 4 different colors and I like to switch back and forth blending. But if one of those colors is really dark or black, it’s hard to clean my brush off to switch back to a lighter color without that dark color still lingering and potentially messing up my eye look. Use this pan to switch back and forth between colors so your brush is clean as you switch.
//Â Pencil Sharpener
A pencil sharpener is one of those tools I forget just how often I use. There is nothing worse than reaching for a pencil liner only to realize you don’t have a pencil sharpener #firstworldproblems am I right?!
GROOMING TOOLS
// Tinkle Eyebrow Razors
Even though these are called “razors” don’t be scared! They aren’ super sharp or even as sharp as a normal shaving razor. The blade is super fine and they are fantastic for shaving your facial hair because the hair won’t grow back darker or thicker. THIS. IS. KEY. When trimming facial hair, you don’t want to use an actual razor…big no-no! These are dirt cheap and so quick to trim around eyebrows, peach fuzz, lips, hairline, really anything!
// Tweezers
No surprise here but a good pair of tweezers is worth having instead of a cheapy pair that can’t grab anything and doesn’t have enough precision. Also a magnifying mirror is my best friend when it comes to eyebrow tweezing! This is no going back once you’ve seen your face 10x magnified…ha!
CLEANING TOOLS
// Brush & Sponge Cleaner
Clean makeup brushes and sponges gives you a much more flawless makeup application. Makeup buildup really accumulates on your brushes. I try to clean mine every few weeks. This spray makes it easy and quick so I don’t dread doing it. Plus clean brushes will also help to keep your skin clean and clear.
// Makeup Brush Cleaning Mitt
This mitt is great to use while you are cleaning your brushes because it will help scrub the bristles to really get them clean. Think of it as a loofa for your brushes.
I’m telling ya…you NEED these tools in your life. And you don’t have to spend a fortune either that way you can save your money to actually buy makeup! Or whatever else you want to spend it on 🙂 What is your favorite makeup tool you just can’t live without? Leave me a comment letting me know!
