My Youtube makeup video addiction has once again taken me down new paths in the beauty world! I have to give credit to emilynoel83 for this dupe idea in her recent video called “Drugstore Retail Therapy | Low Cost Hits & Misses”. She talked about this Kara Cosmetics eyeshadow palette in that video and mentioned it gave her Subculture palette vibes. I thought it would be fun to do a side-by-side comparison of each palette to really see if I could find an Anastasia Beverly Hills Subculture palette dupe!
Emily got her palette from ikatehouse.com. I’ve actually never heard of this site but it seems to be an affordable makeup and beauty product site with low cost brands and products. Many of the brands on this site are new to me and some are ones I’m familiar with such as e.l.f, Milani, LA Girl, NYX, etc. I’m excited to explore this site and discover new brands and products!
Anyway, Kara Cosmetics is one of the brands on this site and the ES06 palette (see product links below) is the one we are putting to the test against ABH Subculture. Emily swatched the Kara palette in her video and the quality of the eyeshadows looks really great! I think she had already used it and it was her favorite thing that she got in her haul! Can I also take a second to mention that we talking about a $27 price difference?! Plus you get 35 total shadows in the $15 Kara palette vs 14 shadows in the $42 ABH palette…!
I tried to see if I could find a dupe for all the shades in the ABH palette when comparing to the Kara palette. I numbered them all and found dupes for 11 of the 14 shades in the ABH palette. The numbers I couldn’t find a close comparison for in the ABH palette were 1,9 and 12. However, if you had other palettes in your collection, you could see if you had dupes for these shades anywhere else. Numbers 1 and 9 are the two brightest shades and 12 is a dark teal color.
Even though the Kara palette doesn’t have a close dupe to 3 of the shades in the Subculture palette, you get so many more options to choose from and create looks with in the Kara palette! I personally prefer the shade range and selections in this palette. They look easier to work with and lean more on the warm side. I do love how funky and unique the Subculture palette is but I’ve always thought that since the colors are so different, it could be hard to create looks with them. Also, after watching a bunch of review videos on the Subculture palette, many of the reviews were hit and miss.
If you like the Subculture palette and want to play with colors like that but can’t justify spending the money, I would recommend the Kara ES06 palette hands down! You get more for your money, most of the same colors as the Subculture palette and great quality shadows. I’m all about a great dupe and while this isn’t an exact dupe to the Subculture palette, I think it’s a really close comparison and one that I would invest in.
Side note – this Kara palette also gives me Morphe palette vibes and I LOVE Morphe shadows and palettes! Like Kara, Morphe is also very affordable and high-quality. I use my Morphe 35F palette almost everyday. Here’s yet another reason to snag this Kara palette if you’ve been eyeing Morphe and never tried any of their big palettes. This Kara palette is even cheaper!
I have linked the exact Kara Cosmetics ES06 palette from a couple different websites that I found it on. When I was writing this post, some sites were sold out of the palette and some weren’t so wanted to give you options if you are interested in it. Just note – the pricing could vary a little.
Also – here is a link to the ABH Subculture palette from Ulta if you want to compare!
Let me know if you’ve ever bought anything from ikatehouse and what brands you love from there! I can’t wait to discover some new finds and would love to know your experience!

I like the colors in many Anastasia eyeshadow products. However I bought one of her pallettes and thought the fallout was terrible. Some even landed in my eyes. I haven’t bought anymore of her shadows since then. Would be curious to know if you or any others had similar experiences.

Hi Erin, I heard a lot of the same feedback about this palette. I don’t have this palette but have used her single eyeshadows and they are good. I think ABH palettes for the price are pretty expensive. There are so many great and affordable palettes on the market that I usually prefer the spend my money on. I think these Kara palettes and Morphe palettes are much more worth it to me!!
