Last summer my husband went on a gluten and dairy free diet for some health reasons. This wasn’t completely new territory for us because we had done a few Whole 30 challenges in the past and I was eating about 90% Whole 30 the 6 months leading up to me getting pregnant. If you aren’t familiar, Whole 30 is pretty much gluten free, dairy free, sugar free and alcohol free. My husband has been a CHAMP and literally hasn’t cheated once since last summer. He was encouraged to go gluten and dairy free for a year so we are almost to the year mark.
Our son was around 3 months old at the time my husband started his gluten and dairy free diet and I was still breastfeeding so I decided not to do it 100%. However, I have tried to make our dinners gluten and dairy free. I will add in dairy or gluten here or there for myself if I feel like it. Also when my son started eating solids, I didn’t restrict him at all. Over the last year that we’v been on this journey, I’ve found some of the best recipes, products or ingredients to use that have really become staples in our household.
Having food restrictions or allergies can be so tough. Finding alternatives or options has been a real challenge for us and of course those options are more expensive or harder to find at the store. And we’ve also tried our fair share of duds that were just plain gross. If you have food restrictions, then you probably have too! It’s all trial and error.
But along the way, these 12 gluten free dairy free foods have been hidden gems making it a little easier to have treats or snacks on hand. If you are on a gluten and dairy free diet, I highly recommend checking these products out! They are all so yummy and will help fill in some of the gaps in your gluten and dairy free diet.
Bitchin’ Sauce Chip Dips – my husband looooves these! We’ve found them at Fresh Thyme and there are several different flavor options.
Immaculate Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough – these cookies are so amazing! You will be SHOCKED that they are gluten and dairy free when you take your first bite. Seriously, game. changer.
Sweet Loren’s Edible Cooke Dough – we found this once when we were vacationing in Florida at Publix and it was sooo good! Our local stores (Kroger & Fresh Thyme) carry this brand but not this product in particular. We have only found the cookies that you bake and those aren’t as good as the Immaculate ones in our opinion. If you can find this edible cookie dough, snatch it up!
Daiya Ranch Dressing – Great for dipping or salads
Burritos – these have been a great lunch option for my husband during the work week. No prep required and very filling. These are his two favorite brands and flavors Amy’s Beans & Rice burritos and Daiya burritos
Kinnikinnick Donuts – my husband has a huge sweet tooth and donuts are one of his favorites. These glazed ones hit the spot for him and I love them too! They also have chocolate ones and maybe a few more flavors.
Simple Mills Almond Flour Crackers – I’m a cracker person and love a good cracker and slice of cheese as a snack. Most gluten free crackers we’ve had are rice flour based and just a little too bland/communion cracker tasting for me. But these are soooo good and have the texture and taste of a real cracker. We’ve had the sea salt and veggie flavors and they are both so yummy!
Banza Chickpea Pasta – we have tried about every gluten free pasta option out there because I love my pasta. Recently, someone I follow on IG suggested this brand. I wasn’t getting my hopes up because chickpea pasta??? I was definitely skeptical. But this stuff is SO good! I literally can’t tell a difference. I’ve seen penne, spirals, macaroni, and shells. Best gluten free pasta we have tried!
Bird’s Eye Veggie Made Broccoli Tots – this is one of our all time favorite sides and our little guy just loves these. You can pair them with just about anything and they are so easy. Win-win all around at our house.
Ben & Jerry’s Rocky Road Ice Cream – I recently tried this and it was delicious. I don’t love plain non-dairy ice cream because the consistency just isn’t the same but when there are some extras stirred in, I’m here for it!
Siete Tortillas – stop what you are doing and snag these tortillas. You will thank me later! You can use them for so many things: breakfast burritos, tacos, fajitas, wraps!
Siete Queso – ok I know what you are thinking…dairy free queso?? But look, this brand is onto something. I didn’t even know this existed until my good friend actually told us about it just a week or two ago. Get your nachos ready folks!
