Glosses are back people….I repeat GLOSSES ARE BACK!! In case you haven’t noticed, the beauty world likes to swing from one extreme to the other with trends. The ultra matte liquid lip look that became popular a few years ago now has birthed a new trend on the complete opposite spectrum…glossy lips! Actually this isn’t a new trend by any means but more so a spotlight back on gloss and now bigger and better than before. Upon swinging back to this trend, lip toppers have now become part of the family and I’m going to dig into 5 affordable lip toppers worth trying!
Lip toppers are basically lip glosses but usually more sheer. Think less pigment and color and more shine, sparkle and glitter! They can be worn alone or better yet, topped onto another lip product for a juicy and sparkly finishing touch! I think Jouer was one of the first brands to come out with a “lip topper” product when they dropped their Skinny Dip metallic lip topper. The beauty community fell in love, and now many brands have jumped on the bandwagon to create their own versions. Some have adopted neutral everyday looks while others have combined the idea with the holographic trend or metallic trend to create unique spins on multiple ideas at once.
KKW Beauty recently launched something similar in their Ultralight Beam collection which included 5 high shine glosses. Again, these glosses were less focused on pigment/color and more all about the shine, reflection and sparkle.
As always, I love to find my more affordable options to trends and new products! As much as I would love to try some of the high-end products or brands, I know that I’m fickle when it comes to makeup trends and I like to play around with all kinds of different things. If I can find alternatives that are more affordable and still achieve the same look, I’m much more likely to buy those products without feeling guilty or upset that I spent a ton of money on something I might not wear very often. However, with anything, there are always exceptions especially if I fall in love with something and know I will wear it all the time.
I picked 5 different affordable lip toppers that I think are totally worth trying! Each product is a bit different than the other but they all still revolve around the same idea. Let’s jump into some details for each one
Revlon Super Lustrous Lip Gloss “Snow Pink” $8.49
This line has 12 different lip gloss colors to choose from. However, I think the Snow Pink shade is more of a true lip topper shade while the other shades are more pigmented glosses. They boast a non-sticky formula for an instantly plumped lip look.
J.Cat Beauty Liptonix Extreme Shimmer Topper “Pebble’s BFF” $4.99
This collection includes 6 shades of lip toppers all in high-shine finishes turning any matte look into a shimmer look. I believe there are even more shades in this collection on the J.Cat Beauty website if you’re interested. They’re ridiculously affordable and Pebble’s BFF looks so beautiful!
Ulta Lip Plumping Transforming Top Coat “Ethereal” $10.00
Ethereal is a warm peachy-pink duochrome with gold pearl. Ulta also has another shade called Utopia which is more lavender/blue. These top coats give your lips a duochrome reflection all while creating the appearance of fuller lips with anti-aging properties. This is one of those colors that could probably go with any lip color!
Milani Hypnotic Lights Lip Topper “Flashing Light” $10.99
This lip topper comes in 6 gorgeous shades and the packing is so fun! The collection has a great mix of more neutral colors and bold colors. The formula has light-reflecting, prismatic shimmer that glistens as you move! So dreamy 🙂
L’Oreal Infallible Galaxy Lumiere Holographic Lip Gloss “Ethereal Gold” $9.99
This Galaxy Lumiere collection is brand new from L’Oreal. I thought these glosses would fit perfectly in this collection of lip toppers. There are 4 shades to choose from with Ethereal Gold being described as gold with iridescent white pearls. However, these are limited edition so if you want to try one, you better get them before they’re gone!
It will be interesting to see if any more affordable or drugstore brands come out with their own versions! Brands are gearing up for spring launches so I can’t wait to see what’s coming up 🙂 Leave me a comment down below if you are exciting about lip glosses coming back or if another trend has caught your attention!
